The Callahan Lab at Boise State University is led by Dr. Mike Callahan in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  We are an analytical chemistry group with research interests in cosmochemistry and astrobiology. We are the leading research group investigating cyanide abundance and speciation in extraterrestrial materials. We are conducting pioneering research into how iron cyanocarbonyl complexes could have transitioned to primitive [NiFe] hydrogenase active sites on early Earth.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Callahan Lab is committed to building a diverse and inclusive educational and research environment.  We believe that inclusiveness and excellence are interconnected, which guides our decisions and policies.  We welcome and encourage talented individuals of all backgrounds, including students that belong to historically underserved groups (e.g., underrepresented minorities, first-generation college students, come from one of Idaho’s many rural communities, etc.) to join our research group.

Interested in joining the Callahan Lab? Interested undergraduate and master’s students should contact Dr. Callahan by email or stop by his office in the Science Building, Room 312.

There will be multiple openings for undergraduate students to conduct research in the Callahan Lab in Spring 2025.
